Happy New Year

Brrr, it's awfully chilly outside this week - I noticed the temperature was 9 degrees this morning as the kids left for school and I'm sure they were glad to have their alpaca hats, gloves and scarves to keep them warm.

Out in the fields, however, our furry friends are living it up and enjoying the fridgid temperatures.  The female side of the barn obviously feels the cold a little more as they tend to stay close during the early morning hours. The moms and babies only venture deep into the fields from mid-morning until mid-afternoon and then return back to the shelter of their stalls as it starts to get dark.

The boys on the other hand are having a great time playing in the fields and grazing on the ice encrusted grass.  Taking a break, alpaca boy style, means stretching out for a nap in the middle of their field while the cold wind ruffles their fleece.  I'm sure they're lovely and warm under all that alpaca fiber and, having their roots in the Andes of Southern Peru, it must feel postively balmy in Maryland!

The moral to this post is ....  Make sure you're all dressed up in Alpaca before leaving home if you want to stay warm this week.  Prima Donna is modelling the look with her gorgeous plum scarf.
